Teaching Philosophy

Give them the tools to teach themselves!

As a private piano teacher, I firmly believe that lessons should be a student-centered experience for creation and hands-on discovery. I strive to empower students to make decisions for themselves, which will ultimately challenge them to leave class with more determination to practice and learn.

My long-term goal for my students is that they become independent, competent, life-long music makers by helping develop their musical minds, eyes, and ears. Alongside learning classical repertoire such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, etc., I incorporate ear training, sight-reading, technique, and theory in lessons. These aspects of piano are important because they build a foundation for analyzing, learning new music, and recognizing and identifying musical elements. I believe that equipping students with this knowledge will help them blaze their musical trail.
